Chrysanthemum

At Slaman’s Quality Flowers one of our focuses is growing chrysanthemums, more commonly known as mums. Chrysanthemums belong to the Compositae family. Mums are short-day plants which grow well in climates of low temperature. There are a variety of different ways that mums can be marketed, at Slamans we produce commercials and pom chrysanthemums. We produce a continual variety of colours for poms with many seasonal additions. For the spring we increase our production of pinks, and yellows; fall brings in a beautiful addition of red, yellow, orange, and bronze varieties; and in the winter we focus on providing white, green and red for the holiday season.

Chrysanthemum grading:
In order to provide the best for our customer we grade our chrysanthemums into two sizes.

Our number 1 grade consists of 5 stem bunches of strong stems, multiple large blooms per stem with no defects in the flower or foliage. The number 2 grade will be made up of 10 stems of product that has weaker, thinner stems and generally a smaller flower. The grading system is essential in making sure the consumer receives what they require.
